R.I.P. GOM.

Gom passed away peacefully on Sunday night at 1.30am. I am so glad I was holding his hand, when he took his last, peaceful breath.

He had a horror of hospital beds, and of the thought of strangers washing him.
In the end none of that was needed, and we managed to care for him right to the end. We had wonderful help from our Doctor. He made 5 Home visits to medicate Gom, and make sure we were alright.

A Palliative Care Nurse came on Sunday afternoon and fitted a syringe pump, to keep Les completely comfortable. She is a kind, loving, and very empathetic Nurse, and I appreciated her lovely hug as much as everything else she did and helped us to do.

Les did not wish to have a funeral, so we are having a Private Cremation on Friday afternoon, for Family only.

His little dog Leo is so confused and seems to search constantly for Les's return.

Friends, both near and far, are comforting and supporting me as much as they can.

It all seems unreal, really. I have to just take it an hour at a time.

We were married for 45 years, and it is going to be so hard to live without him.

Thankyou for all your caring thoughts you have sent us.

When we first met, GOM always played this song for me, on the local Jukeboxes in Cafes.

Dusty Springfield, I Only Want to Be With You.

My darling Meggie - so often your gentle writing has been a comfort to me. I hope that you are receiving the same comfort from family and friends - it sounds like you are.

I can only offer my love for you from afar but please know that I am thinking of you - and will carry you in my heart on Friday and beyond.

Forty five years is a long time (I know). Your private ceremony will have hundreds of us there in spirit with you.

I was so glad to hear about the loving care he received; what a blessing for you both.

I hope you keep on writing your blog when you feel up to it. I feel I know you both even though you are on the other side of the world. You are talented.

Dear Meg,
I just sent you something by email before I came in here to our blogs so I hope what I sent is okay - I think it is. ( I liked it )
Now I need to add my heartfelt condolences. I am so glad the end was peaceful for GOM.( for his sake and for your sake. )
Being with someone for so long, means carrying on alone will be a hugh change, so I hope your Blog friends can help share the journey with you, and that our thoughts and support may sustain you just a little.
I think the animals may understand more than we realise ....I hope they give you some solace.

Sent with love, and sympathy,
your friend Ali.

I am sending you loving thoughts and cyber hugs and wishing that I lived closer so I could hold your hand and comfort you.
May you find yourself surrounded by the love and comfort of dear friends and loved ones to help you on these sad and mourning days.

Take care of yourself dear friend.

Oh Meggie, I have only just got onto blogger due to technical difficulties and was feeling highly peeved with technology until I read your post.
You have spoken so fondly of Gom for a long while - well as long as I have been blogging.
The space in your home left by his passing will be huge and Leo will surely search everywhere but the space in your heart will be full to overflowing with 45 years of memories.
God bless to you and yours
hugs
Miche'le

I'm sending my heartfull thoughts and condeleances to you. Although so far away, I always had the feeling of knowing you and GOM, just as good friends. I'm grateful that he could leave peacefully. At least, this can be a small consolation to you. I also wish to thank you for the courage you inspire me and I want you to know that you both are in my thoughts and prayers, especially on Friday.

Here's a BIG, friendly (((hug))), dear Meggie.

Words cannot express how sorry I am at your sad news.

Your family cremation may have only family in attendance but there will be many of us there in spirit with you I'm sure.

May the happy memories outweigh the sad ones in due course and I hope that you will feel able to blog occasionally soon - I feel I have a friend on the other side of the world I would be really sad to loose if not!

Virtual hug from me to you.

Dear Meggie

I read your sad news last week at work and was in tears. It seemed somehow wrong to rattle off a response on my phone.

I am so very sorry for your loss, it must be so very painful after so many loving years together.

I send you thoughts and a warm hug. I hope to be able one day to visit when our lives permit.
