Animals are my Achilles Heel..

I mean, what the hell could be more cute, than some little Polar Bear attacking some leg!!?? I seem to have a freaky fascination with Polar Bears. Though, I do concede I may never see a live one!!

I would love to meet one, & I do dream of having an experience where I may encounter a live Polar Bear. I also
realise they are not to be tifled with, so I would try to be respectful!!
********************
Here are some of my favourite herbs... I love Basil! Such a distinctive herb.. so vital for Pesto!!And here, we see Thyme, such a lovley herb, so versatile.. so good in stuffing mises, or just to include in vegeatables

Parsley.. never fails to please. A good all rounder herb, goes with anything. An added asset.

And fresh French Taragon and Coriander and Chives and Rosemary and Mint and ..... love them all but Basil is probably (?!) my favourite. Hope all your herbs survive the heatwave and that you manage to stay in the cool too. Just imagine yourself swimming with the Polar bears in that cool, cool (freezing!) water....Warm wishes from Suffolk, England xx (ex of Sydney)

It looks as though you have a good crop. Basil is one of my favourites too. I can grow parsley, but somehow thyme keeps dying. My trouble is insufficient room.
Where did you find those polar bear photos?

I picked up one of those curry plants today - I love the smell of them!1

Your herbs are looking SO much better than mine!

I would like to meet a little bear too.
When I eat roastbeef I always put a bit of thyme and it's very good.

Yes, I know animals are your weakness. Love the emails with the animals from you!

Your herbs looks so healthy. Reminded me that I need to go water the plants I drug in last fall. LOL

Now this polar is the cutest thing but I pictured her all...grown up and got scared for a while :-)

Ahhh In my country we have a thing with the herbs you mentioned in your entry. We make meatballs with parsley and there is no Greek salad without it. Actually it is only natural to use all of them for our pasta as well (thanks to our fellow neighbor-country, Italy :-).

Take care now
peace and love

If you ever get to Orlando Florida.
Go to SeaWorld! They have an awesome Polar bear exhibit! I was amazed at how big they are and so gentle, especially with their little ones. You should see them swim too! It's an unforgetable experience!

Go to Churchill Manitoba. They run excursions in buses out to see the polar bears at the town dump. Mind you, Polar bears are mean mothers. They make grizzlies seem like pandas.

Hi Meggie
Thanks for dropping into 70 Plus and Still Kicking - otherwise I may not have discovered this great blog by a fellow Aussie. It's such honest writing!
I enjoyed your Oz Day post. I think we share a lot of views, and I'm sure we'll see each other again.
By the way I was born in Sydney but we moved to The Entrance on the Central Coast when I was l2 months old. Then back to Sydney and now on the North Coast.
Cheers
June also in Oz

Nice job on the pictures. The herbs look tasty!

You need to take a trip to seaworld on the Gold Coast. There are polar bears there.

Pretty herbal pix, Meggie! I bet they smell good, too. So fresh and green.

What does "stuffing mises" mean? I'm a bemused Yank!!

Polar bears are impressive. Large, and amazing agile under water. Somewhere around here I have photos of one dismembering a carrot. I should look for them.

The herbs startled me for a moment. "What is her basil doing alive at this time of year?"

Oh. Right. Different hemisphere, different season. That "world is round" stuff catches me up every time!

Hi All, The truth about this post is, it was incomplete when it mysteriously 'posted itself'. I had not really finished with it, nor had I proofread so it was a surprise to me too!!
We had had visitors, some wine was indulged in, & Lo & Behold! Herbs.

The Stuffing "Mises" that Del has questioned, is meant to be stuffing mixes! As in 'stuffing', or 'filling' made of breadcrumbs, onion & thyme or other herbs, used for meat, or poultry, or vegetables, such as pumpkin, capsicum etc. USA readers may know it as 'seasoning'.
The only herb I have dismal luck with (not counting Gom) is Mint. It used to be so vigourous, & prolific, we had to contain it, but now some disease has ravaged it, in both Australia & New Zealand. I saw it on sale for $8 a measly bunch in Auckland, & was totally shocked. It used to almost be a weed!!
I consider no green salad complete without fresh mint.

My mother Mary, was a champion Parsley grower... hers was like a hedge!!

Hello Meg, Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for adding the link to yours. Grateful thanks particularly for your caring comments re: Bear - she is much the same and it is going to take some time before we see any major improvements, bless her. Good news is that she is eating, drinking and pooing! And still wagging her tail. Love to you, to GOM and to Honey and Leo. Veronica xx

Polar bears and Basil are also two of my favorites. (but not the two of them together, of course)!

The bear picture is cute. The herbs look great. We have to plant some as well next year

I am so glad that bear is little and not full sized. Certainly would not be quite so cute by then! I shareyour passion for hebs, and have many growing. The freshness the taste imparts is unsurpassed.

Gday Meggie.. You have a nice crop of herbs there how are they surviving this heat . Mint and rosemary are my favorite herbs plus garlic..
Rosemary sprinkled over roastlamb or poultry...while cooking Yummy..
Pheww was 46c+ here today

Oh yes I love basil too - tomato and basil salad is one of my faves.

I often do roast potatoes with rosemary - my children call them roast potatoes with twigs cos I don't always take the woody bits out!

Basil and Oregano are my 2 favorite spices.
The polar bear at our local zoo is a fun guy. They have a window under his living quarters where we can watch him swim. He comes right up to the window while under water and looks right at you. Those paws are MASSIVE!!!

The shots of the little bear are wonderful -- they are so cute!
I can't even imagine anything growing quite yet -- although it is warming up. Today we may see 6! It seems like months since we've had a temperature without a minus sign in front of it.

LOL!(Ian) I thought that my family was the only one that used to go see the bears at the town dump. . .we were in Northern BC so they were not polars but black and grizzly. Ok we didn't go JUST to see the bears but they were an interesting aside to the day's chores. Those polar bear pics are so sweet! Put a huge grin on my face! Thank you!

HI Meggie,
I will have to find the polar pictures for you - they are on my school computer so it will have to wait until monday. Remind me if I forget- you will love them...

I love tomato and basil but I also love cilantro with tomato- it will be awhile until we can grow fresh herbs.

I hope that you are safe from the fires and not too hot- I know that you have had a huge heat wave all over Australia.

Keep cool, my friend and I will try and stay warm,
Regards,
Anna

Am envious of your parsley, ours has gone to seed already! I suspect that as we were away for a month and there was no-one to keep picking it, that it has given up! I do hope you're out of the way of all those terrible fires!
