August seems to be one of those months of significance in my life.
I am sure the doubters & the realists & the scientists would scoff, or find perfectly reasonable statistics to indicate it is not really any different to any other month.
I would love to know if anyone else has a month or time period which they feel is significant, in a recurrent way, in their life?
My father, & one of his brothers, and their mother, my Grandmother, were all born in August. In the Zodiac sign of Leo. I married Gom, another Leo.
A loved Niece is a Leo. A cousin is a Leo. Another cousin's husband, again Leo, & one's son & grandson, Leos.
I have a high proportion of friends who are Leo people, with August birthdays.
And Leo, our lovable rascal of a dog was born on 21st August- mustn't forget him!
My Maternal Grandmother was born on August 31st, technically not a Leo.
My mother passed away on this day, exactly 10 years ago today. I may post a story I once wrote about her death, & how I felt, but not today. It is still too raw, even after 10 years. I am sure she managed to hang on until GOM's birthday had passed. She could no longer talk, but she seemed anxious to check the time, & date.
My mother's brother died in August. Also my father, & was buried on what would have been his 73rd birthday. The list goes on, with numerous people I wont list individually.
We usually had our overseas holidays in August, as it seemed a quiet time in the Hotel trade, & most convenient. Usually round about the time of GOM's birthday. And school holidays, when our children were young.

We had rain yesterday, but nothing major, just enough to perk up the lawns & the plants. I could smell the Daphne very strongly in the evening, when the rain had stopped.
It looks a little misty out there today, but the sun is out, so the washing may dry. It spent the night hanging dripping, still on the line! We are lucky we dont live in an area where clothes get nicked off the lines!
When Best Friend J & I lived in the Southern City, our knickers were interfered with on our clothes line. We discovered to our horror, that someone had chewed them, & left tobacco stained saliva all over them! We were just so shocked, & it really gave us the creeps. We had our suspicions about who had done it, & complained bitterly, but it was vehemently denied. So we were left feeling worse, because if it hadnt been done as a 'joke' it meant some true freak had done it! We never found out, either way!
And no, I dont think it was in August! Haha.
Another thing to ponder: Why does only half the post abide by the paragraphs I have typed?

Meggie, my mother has always said her mother hated August. It had nothing to do with location or weather. She grew up in England, and came to Australia via NZ with her young family in the 1920s. But she always hated August.
She ended up dying in August.
Maybe I shouldn't comment, being a non-Leo and all! ;)
Meggie I just wanted to tell you I am thinking of you today on the anniversary of your mother's death. It must always be an especially tough day for you.
XO Jelly
I love August because of the heat. I feel so good with the warmth of summer.
The 11th is my sister BD and last year it was the month anniversary of our Mom passing away so we did not celebrate. This year we celebrated and had fun. I know just how you feel about your Mom.
You are certainly an August family. We don'thave anything like that in our family that I know of. The knicker story is so bizzare! I'd be freaked out too if it happend here, esp since there are only the two of us around! Lol.
The knickers thing is very very creepy.
My brothers are also born in November like me, but there isn't really anything like all your August happenings.
I often glance at digital clocks and it is 1:11 or 11:11 though. Don't know if I just happen to notice because of the ones , and I glance lots of other times and think nothing of it, or if I really do look at clocks at these times.
Happy birthday to GOM.
November is our big family month, my dad, my FIL, my daughter, SIL, 2 neices, BF, all have birthdays in NOV. Like Crafty said, I will glance at the clock at night and it will be 11:14 or 11:19, mine and my dad's birthdates.
Happy birthday GOM! I knew there was something I'd forgotten in all the birthday excitement over my way.
We have a lot of Leos. The twins' birthday is only four days before mine, and my ex sister-in-law and ex-father-in-law (neither related to each other) were three and one days before mine. One brother, two cousins and an aunt are all clustered around the last two days of July and 1st August.
BUT - I always seem to be surrounded by Virgos at work.
We Aries don't believe in horoscopes.
Bleh! Yes, I think I'd be horrified if someone had chewed on my underwear too!
I'm sorry your mother has been gone these ten years. Gone but not forgotten, as they say. Bless her for trying not to spoil GOM's birthday, a good soul to the last moment.
Omigosh, August is a busy month for you, and filled with good and bad portent. I have always felt that August had an eerie feel about it. Isn't that weird? Even when I was a child growing up on Vancouver Island, August felt eerie to me. Don't ask me why...
Meggie - my blue moon boy is a Leo and those traits you quote are very typical of him - although I have not particularly noticed the more negative ones. Yet. I dread losing Mum - losing Dad was bad enough - so thinking of you
That was very weird. At the start of your post I was thinking which month was a special month for me, "Hmmm, October? Probably October." Then you mentioned your parents' deaths, and that's when my Dad died! October, I mean. That was odd.
The knickers story is creepy. So I don't think about it too much, I've decided they were chewed by a rusty robot from the future looking for some mineral found only in cotton.
oh, August is a bit significant: my birthday and my beloved Grandma's birthday.
She went and died the day after mine.
One of the last things she tried to do was get me a present, but was too ill.
She was the best.
O!August is a blessing month for us and like you many birthdays that are special and mean a lot to the family.
Happy birthday too to the 71 year old by the way the photos were lovely to see.

All July cancerians in my house, except for a libran daughter.
I hope that although you still miss your mother very much, you have many happy memories which 'keep her near' every day.
Very creepy story of the knickers. Did you have to throw them away?
Both of my children are Leos. I know this is a very difficult day of observance for you, sending hugs!
Just as a bit of local namedropping, Dianna Krall just lives in the next big town down the road from me.
Otherwise, I got married (twice) in August. Didn't work. Last time I opted for April. Still works.
Oh yuck, that sounds as bad as when I was in college and someone was stealing underwear out of the dryer when we were washing a load at the community laundry mat. Were they really going to use them?
I have two leo children. Don't know what that has to do with anything though.
Some days when I feel especially blue and start to wonder why... I discover it is the death day of someone I loved. So I kinda know how you feel about your mom.
We have birthdays and deaths in every month except March. So I guess we have an INsignificant month! I know that someday I will lose my mother and it is a thought that I push very far away.... because I just KNOW how very awful it will be.... no matter how old.
My father's birthday was 18 August. He died in 1974 at the age of 56.
This is the only significant birthday that I have in August.
But, I never forget it.
I too, am married to a Leo.
Your Mom sounds lovely, sweet and brave, to be thinking of you and GOM when she was so ill..
I don't think we have a significant family month, but I'm sorry about your mother. When I was young, I used to think that after a while, one wouldn't miss friends and family who had died so much, but of course it's not so at all. One misses them more because of the long time since one's seen them.
Hi All,
Thankyou so much for all your comments. I have been so busy this weekend! I have been having a quick jog about blogs to try to catch up, & have read so much of interest.
And I love the way some bloggers manage to get back so often to answer individual comments. In my ideal world I would do that too. Because I love to read ever word, & often have some good laughs. Or tears.
I thought of a lot more 'August/Leo' events in my life, but too many to write about here. Perhaps if I am still blogging in a year's time, I will recap then.
Again thank you so much for your wonderful input. And GOM was tickled pink with his Birthday wishes, also & said to say Thankyou!
Better late than never...
I always thought my dislike of August was about the weather and seasons, but it always seems to me a baleful month.
May is the best, corny but true.

Jeanette, Leo is a very lovable rogue!
It's your entry. Only half of this entry can abide by the paragraphs you type, if you like. :-)

When I was in high school, there was a group of us who had a birthday everyday for a week at the end of July. It started with a friend's on the 21st and ended with mine on the 28th. We always had a huge blow-out party every year.
Now, April seems to be the month of birthdays and stuff. Several friends, my mom, Mr. B, and our cats were all born in April. I had my appendix removed that month and my mom had knee surgery that month.
My immediate family's birthdays are perfectly spread out through the year from oldest to youngest. My dad is first in January, then my mom in April, then me in July, and finally my sister in October. I always thought that was kinda cool.
As a July Leo, I am happy to say that I have most of the "good" traits on your list, but I can tend to be very bossy!
Hi Meggie -- you hit a nerve there! So many comments! My 'special' month (not always good) is September. But most of my special beloveds are Aquarians (February mainly). And I was born in October.
Please drink a cheerful glass of something in honour of your mom, and I will do the same thinking of mine! I don't think we ever get over that loss.
Well, there must be something about August.
I'm a Leo. Know what? I dislike cats.
Father-in-law was born in August, Mu brother-in-law and his wife are Leos too.
And one of my best friends was a Leo.
Interesting.
