No Consolation Prize

Please feel free to just ignore the written parts, & look only at the pictures.

This is a lying-on-the-floor-in-agony post. A whining-whingeing-crying-begging-for-mercy post! Hot tears have coursed my cheeks over this.

There is no consolation prize for being 'right'. No comfort in saying "I told you so!"

I am demented with pain. My tooth is indeed dying. I cannot imagine how anyone could live through the pain inflicted in torture, on teeth.

I have given birth to 3 children. I know it was painful. It is a lie when they say you forget the pain.

You never forget! But you are usually so besotted with your child, you just prefer to push the memory of the pain away.

With tooth pain, there is no consolation. I just want the wretched thing out of my head. My whole burning-screaming-insane-pain, ear, face & jaw want the tooth gone.

I am totally 'drunk', on painkillers, antibiotics, & insane pain!

Just before I went back to see the dentist, I learnt of a death. Of someone I only knew by 'proxy', you might say. Someone who was 100 years old.

Someone who remained alert & knowing, until her death.

She had surely had a good & long life. She could not be wished back.

Still, I cried the selfish tears that we, who are left behind cry, when someone we love or admire, or respect, passes away.

Perhaps we also cry in recongnition or our own mortality.
Or the unrelenting damnawful pain of a dying tooth!
Not helped by Winter's return blasts, impinging on our Spring.
Snow in the Blue Mountains! Sleet, & cold stinging rains.
Adding to my misery.
Connie Francis, Who's Sorry Now.

This sounds silly but it did help when my tooth was so painful... take a mouthful of water and hold it in your mouth where the painful tooth is...as soon as you swallow the pain is back.. but for that few minutes that I could hold the water there.. it didn't hurt..

The pictures were beautiful... loved the pillows and the bag.. but the first one of the SG was the best...

aaagh!
the return of the evil fang!

I am in a horrid mood too, and I'm not in any toothish type of pain.
I do hope it passes for you.

Your pictures are beautiful! ('Tho I can't tell which doggie that is with the soulful look)

I'm so sorry, M. Is there nothing they can do?

ASK FOR DRUGS.

Oh lordie Meggie - that sounds hideous. I hope some relief is in sight very soon. In the meantime, I'm with daysgoby - yes! get more drugs!

Oh dear. I guess I'd say change dentists too. Or maybe try some other doctor. I recall my dad was in such agony over his "teeth" that he couldn't even get out of the car and after weeks of this he found out he had neuralgia, it wasn't his teeth after all. Something to look into maybe?

Blogger is being a pile-in-the-sky of extreme excrescence!!
I have been castigated of late, for not replying on my comments section, so I will try to remedy this lack.

Ann, I feel you & I are living some paralell lives on opposite sides of this world. I have found relief with that water trick this morning, when the fierce burn was at it's height. As you say, once swallowed the effectual relief was gone!

Fifi, this is the immediate neighbour of the Evil Fang. I knew it was going to be a problem, once Evil Fang One was gone!

Jess, I have drugs. I mistakenly thought I had sufficient drugs, of sufficient strength! They seemed adequate at the time. The rude awakening to their ineffectuality dawned on me at 4am.

Jelly, I have had some latent relief. Perhaps the antibiotics are kicking in! Plus, I have taken upwards of the max!!

Tanya B, I think the dentist was correct in his call, as far as he could see. The Xray was clear. Experience with my @$%^&*# teeth told me otherwise, but he erred on the side of caution. I would not wish him, or his progeny harm. To his credit he did not charge me for the subsequent visit.
Though his quote for root canal left me in no doubt, I will not be having that!!! It could fund a small colony for 4 years!

Tanya W, I have had extensive surgery for a tumour, which disturbed my facial nerve, & I suspect I may have had my top teeth removed because of neuralgia. This tooth is quite vital to my eating future, so I was reluctant to have it removed. I see false teeth in my future. shudder...
Maybe there is a slimmer me, in my future?? haha.

I have been in the "drugged to the eyeballs" state with tooth pain in my youth, and here I am in my 50s and I remember every single second of it in glorious technicolour. I hope you have seen a different dentist and that, at the very least, that tooth is out and gone. If not fixed.

meggie said...

Linds, I appreciate your thoughts. It is a pain that never fades. I know they cannot remove it while it is infected, or inflamed. Our teeth seem to offer us endless troubles, don't they? Much like our children, but the rewards of children far outweigh the rewards of dental appendages!!

Is it something we should do? Respond to comments in the comments? Oh dear I so rarely do.

And if I was in the kind of pain you are in I would be just so reluctant!

I hope it goes so very soon.

Aww - poor you. I always maintain there is NO pain like toothache. I had a really bad bout a few years ago and absolutely the only thing that gave me any relief was whiskey and I never touch alcohol - lol ! I will NEVER forget that pain - I would have willingly pulled it out myself with rusty old pliers.

meggie said...

Mary, I am not sure of etiquette, but one of my favourite bloggers replies to every comment! Of course, I rush back to see what he says. I will try to answer individually, & I have changed my settings, so that I get the comments on my email. Prior to this, I had thought this a little...erm??

Andrea, I truly felt like that- & now that the painkillers are wearing off I do again! I feel I could get pliers, & just wrench!! Such an agonising pain!!

Sympathies , Meggie -- We never struck gold with our teeth did we ? -- in any way ? I think our children were/ are luckier . Hang in there !

meggie said...

OMG, I feel if there is someone I can blame for this f%$^ing unrelenting pain... I will!
Most of my rellies had their teeth out at early ages. Why?? why??

You're right, of course. I withdraw my earlier comment.

Wishing you the best and hoping this matter is resolved quickly.

Hope you can get to the dentist soon. Tooth pain is miserable. My youngest daughter just got her wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago. All of the sudden, her jaw started hurting and she felt terrible. Luckily we were able to get her in quickly and get those things out. Blessings my friend on feeling better soon.

May I add "I feel your pain" in truth, but not to the extent of your pain. I hope you don't mind if I pray for you (I know you are not a believer, but I am.)

I hope you are better today! Lay that tooth to rest!

I completely empathise. I spent hours and hours in the dentist's chair last year having root canal treatment and a crown fitted, only to just this week, have that same tooth start being agonising everytime I put pressure on it. Arghhhhhhhh.

Oh Meggie, I hope the dentist can take your toothache away SOON!!

Toothache is hideous. Has it gone yet? (((M))) x

Tooth ache has to be the worst of all. I have had problems all my life. Spent small fortunes on root canals, so you have my deepest sympathy.
I remember once telling my dentist that I would rather have a baby than another root canal, only to have him grin and reply, 'well which is it to be, as I'll have to adjust the chair'.
I hope you find relief soon.If it is infected can't they make a small hole so that it will drain..?

I hope the pain has abated now. I can think of nothing worse, you poor thing.

Pearl said...

Dear Meggie,
you have my complete sympathy, I have always thought that part of us is very poorly designed & should be sent back to the drawing board. our teeth should automaticly fall out & regrow every 5 to 10 years, PAINLESSLY, so we always have good healthy teeth all our life.
& that photo of the dog is magnificent, so clear, & such a gourgous expression, you obviosly have it's sympathy too.

tooth ache is a bit too close to our head...where we live...

I like the way you have mixed the pain with the joy of your photos...a bit like life really

Oh Meggie, You know I am the same as you about tooth ache.( the worst pain especially at night ) Andre is right. Gargle then hold in your mouth over the tooth either neat brandy or whiskey. Swallow or not as you wish. It disinfects too! Also if you are'nt already take a painkiller that is also and anti flam as it will reduce the swelling ( Nurofen double strength is good if you can take it )
Good luck!

O no, you sound so 'hurty'.

Get thee to the dentist. Quickly.

Dear Meggie, I hope your tooth pain goes away or is taken away very soon. I've been there and it is a terrible place to be.

Hi All,
Since my last post I have battled with the pain factor. Though I am on antibiotics the pain keeps recurring, so I am not sure what is going on. The Dentist is aware of the situation- could only suggest stronger painkillers from GP. I have an appointment to have the tooth out on Tues, but if the pain has not gone, I suppose I will have to wait for the infection to go.
I felt relief on Friday afternoon, & hoped the abcess had burst, but the pain returned in the night, & just will not leave! Grrrr.

Hi Meggie, hope your tooth situation is sorted by the time you read this! I seem tor ecall oil of cloves as a good reemedy for tooth pain, but it MIGHT have been the brandy...
